The world's smallest drawbridge was built in Somerset, England. The bridge has just two spans and measures only 1.5 meters wide. It connects the village of Westonzoyland to the mainland.

This tiny bridge was designed by artist David Bowness who wanted to create a unique piece of art. He used recycled materials to build the structure, including wooden pallets, bamboo poles, and plastic bottles.

The bridge was completed in 2012 and cost £1,000 to construct. It was officially opened on May 11th, 2013.

It's amazing to think that this small bridge could be considered a work of art. But it's also impressive that it was built without the use of machinery.

It travels along an old railbed that passes through serene scenery and spectacular rocky coasts. You are welcome to explore the eighteen tranquil miles of island history and stunning scenery by foot or pedal cycle, but there are no motorized vehicles allowed on the island.

The trail's beginnings may be traced back to the days when the Bermuda Railway was the most common mode of transportation for those living on the island. The "Old Rattle and Shake" train ran from St. George's Station in the east to Somerset Station in the west between the years 1931 and 1948. It was nicknamed for its rattling and shaking sounds. The remaining portion of the right of way was converted into a pathway for pedestrians and cyclists in 1964. The Bermuda Parks Department is responsible for the upkeep of the path, which was included in the National Park system in 1986.

The Crystal and Fantasy Caves

Crystal Cave

The island of Bermuda is home to a number of caves, but two of them really stand out. The first attraction is the Crystal Cave, which can be found a short distance from Hamilton. William Smith, a local fisherman, is the one who made the initial discovery of it in the year 1878. He discovered a big crystal cave that he believed had the potential to yield precious minerals. Unfortunately, such a treasure was never discovered within the building.

The second cave is known as the Fantasy Cave, and it can be found close to St. George's. A scientist named James Hutton made the discovery all the way back in 1879. After hearing reports of a mystical lake buried beneath, he made the decision to look into the matter. When he arrived, he found a pool of gorgeous blue water encircled by rock formations that resembled stalactites and stalagmites. He obtained a few water samples from the area, and after having them evaluated, it was established that the water was fresh water.

Both of these caverns welcome tourists and each provides a one-of-a-kind adventure for those who go inside. For instance, the Crystal Cave features a quaint museum where guests can gain insight into the location's rich past. In addition, the Fantasy Cave features a restaurant that is known for its delectable fare and refreshing beverages. If you are going to Bermuda, you shouldn't miss out on either one of these attractions!

Blue Hole Park

The Blue Hole is a natural sinkhole located near the shoreline of the island. It was formed millions of years ago when a large amount of sand was washed into the ocean from nearby hills. As the water receded, the sand settled into a depression. Over time, the hole became deeper and wider until it reached its current size.

The Blue Hole serves as a popular tourist attraction, drawing thousands of visitors every day. Many tourists visit the Blue Hole to swim in the cool waters, while others enjoy snorkelling and scuba diving.

The Shark Reef

The Shark Reef is another popular attraction in Bermuda. It's located just off the coast of Blue Hole Park. The reef is home to hundreds of sharks, rays, and other marine creatures. Visitors can view the animals from a glass-enclosed viewing area.

Watch the Sunset from Gibbs Hill Lighthouse

The view from the top of the Gibbs Hill Lighthouse is absolutely unparalleled when it comes to viewing the sunset over the Atlantic Ocean. It is a breathtaking vista that each and every person should see at least once in their lifetime.

Since it was constructed in 1815, the Gibbs Hill Lighthouse holds the title of Bermuda's oldest lighthouse. The construction has withstood a number of hurricanes and storms, including Hurricane Hugo in 1989, without suffering any damage. The spiral staircase inside the lighthouse is currently accessible to those who wish to visit today and take in the breathtaking vistas from the top.

Take a ferry from Hamilton Harbour to St. George's Bay and then follow the signs to the lighthouse from there. Once you have arrived, make your way to the lighthouse by following the signage. Because there are no available parking spots, drivers will need to park along the road and make their way down to the pier on foot. You will be able to board a bus there that will take you back to Hamilton Harbour.

Once you have arrived at the lighthouse, you will be able to investigate the surrounding grounds and acquire additional knowledge regarding the history of the neighborhood. You won't just find the lighthouse here; you'll also discover a gift shop where you can pick up some mementos and refreshments.

The perspective you get from the top of the Gibbs Hill Lighthouse is hard to beat. You'll have the impression that you're actually living the dream if you stop what you're doing for a few moments to watch the sunset over the water.

Bermuda’s British Naval History

Bermuda has a long and illustrious history that can be traced back to the 1600s, when Captain John Smith passed through the region. The English were the first people to settle on the island, and in 1609 they built the fort known as St. George. The year 1703 was the year that the French took control of the fort and renamed it Pointe du Bout. After that, in 1710, the British retook control of the area, after which it was renamed Great Point.

After the destruction caused by the War of 1812 at Great Point in 1815, the British government made the decision to construct a naval base here. The building was put together between the years 1816 and 1820. The Royal Navy used the base to patrol the waters between New York City and Halifax, Nova Scotia, in order to ensure the safety of the shipping lanes. HM Dockyard Bermuda is located on the base now, and it is a place where people can go to gain knowledge about the history of the Royal Navy.

You can choose to take a tour of Fort St. Catherine on either land or by water. Both options are available. Both trips make a stop at the fort itself, giving guests the opportunity to get knowledge regarding the past of the surrounding area. In addition, there are opportunities to enjoy the natural environment that surrounds the hotel, such as walking routes and swimming areas.

Traditional Afternoon Tea

Afternoon tea has become popular among tourists and locals alike. It's a fun activity to enjoy while visiting Bermuda, and it's a great opportunity to meet other guests and chat with fellow travellers.

Cycle the Railway Trail

If you are searching for an experience that is one of a kind, you should try riding along the railway route. The trail traverses the full width of the island from north to south, making it the ideal option for anyone who wants to get a feel for the terrain of the island without having to resort to driving.

Depending on the destination that you have in mind for your cycling adventure, you have a number of alternative cycling paths from which to select. The North Shore route, which passes through the towns of Paget and St. David's; the East End route, which goes past the towns of Warwick, Somerset, and Hamilton; and the West End route, which passes through the towns of Devonshire, St. George's, and St. Peter's are some of the more well-known options.

If you intend to ride along the railway trail, you are going to need to carry your own bicycle, helmet, water bottle, and snacks with you. Along the route, there are a number of options available for places to stop, including rest stops, picnic spots, and restaurants.

There is no way to refute the notion that Bermuda is known as an island that knows how to party. However, if you are searching for a location in which you will be able to rest and relax, then you need not look any farther than the breathtaking beaches of Bermuda. Because the climate is mild and sunny for the majority of the year, swimming and snorkelling are both enjoyable activities here. And since you're already here, you might as well have some fun and sample some of the regional specialities while you're at it.

One of the most enjoyable ways to get a taste of Bermuda is to indulge in one of its world-famous rum swizzles. These beverages begin with dark rum, which is then combined with various juices before being finished off with a dash of grenadine. Even though you may find these beverages in any store, your best bet is to look for them in the establishments that line Front Street.  Also, Bermuda is renowned for its ginger beer.  It is a national treasure.

The Cooper's Island Nature Reserves can be found in close proximity to the shore of Bermuda. It was established in 1979 and encompasses more than one thousand acres of land. Long Bay Trail is one of the several routes that tourists can explore within the reserve. This trail is 3.5 miles long and loops through tropical forests as well as mangrove swamps along the way.

Within the boundaries of the nature reserve, there are also two beaches. There is a beach that is known as "Dolphin Beach," and it is the residence of hundreds of bottlenose dolphins. A different beach is known as "Cape Charles Beach," and it is on this beach that guests can observe sea turtles deposit their eggs. Bird viewing is another activity that guests can enjoy while at the nature reserve. There are many various kinds of birds that can be spotted in this area, such as blue herons, egrets, ospreys, and gulls, among others.

Fort St Catherine

Fort St. Catherine is only one of the many historical sites that can be found on the island of Bermuda.

The construction of this fort began in 1780, and it remained in use as a military installation until 1815. Today, tourists are welcome to learn about the fort's fascinating past while touring the ruins of the structure. The fort's initial purpose was to provide defense against marauding pirates; nevertheless, it now operates as a museum where guests can obtain insight into the past of the surrounding area.

In addition to touring the fort, there are many more things in Bermuda that you can participate in. You won't have to worry about running out of things to do while you're there because there are lots of places to eat, shop, and explore. In other words, you won't run out of things to do.

Birdwatch at Spittal Pond

One of the most well-known spots for tourists to visit while in Bermuda is Spittal Pond.
