There are two coasts in Costa Rica: the Caribbean and the Pacific.  The Pacific coast of Costa Rica is home to some of the country's most stunning beaches, most verdant rainforests, and most incredible animals. Surfing, scuba diving, hiking, and fishing are just a few of the many activities that can be enjoyed here in abundance.

Along the western border of the country, which it shares with Nicaragua and Panama, is where you'll find the country's Pacific shoreline. Here you'll find Playa Zancudo, Tamarindo, Puerto Viejo de Sarapiquí, La Fortuna, Manuel Antonio National Park, Montezuma Waterfall, and Corcovado National Park.

In addition, the country's capital, San José, is located on the Pacific coast. This city welcomes tourists with a diverse selection of cultural sites, as well as shopping malls, museums, restaurants, and nightlife venues. Other cities along the Pacific coast include Liberia, Calderas, Puntarenas, Quepos, Jacó, Palmar Sur, Golfito, Naranjos, Tárcoles, Pavones, Santa Cruz, Guadalupe, Cahuita, Mal País, Dominical, Uvita, Sierpe, Nuevo Arenal, Rinconada, and Bahía Drake.

The Pacific coast is home to a number of one-of-a-kind attractions, such as the longest coral reef system in the world, the largest mangrove forest in Central America, and the second highest waterfall in the Americas. Additionally, this part of the country is home to some of the country's most unique ecosystems, such as tropical dry forests, cloud forests, and wetland areas.

Along the shore of the Pacific Ocean, one can come across a wide variety of flora and wildlife, such as monkeys, sloths, parrots, iguanas, sea turtles, crocodiles, fish, stingrays, sharks, dolphins, whales, manta rays, to name just a few examples.

In addition, the Pacific coast is home to a number of pristine natural regions, such as Parque Nacional Marino Ballena, Rincón del Coco, Reserva Ecológica Baula, and Reserva Forestal Buenaventura.

Visitors can choose from a diverse selection of places to stay along the Pacific coast, ranging from five-star resorts to more affordable lodgings. Playa Zancudo and Playa Hermosa are two beaches that are frequently visited by tourists.

Popular beach communities such as Tamarindo, Manuel Antonio, Montezuma, and Palmar Sur are all conveniently located along the Pacific coast, making it simple for tourists to visit them. Corcovado, the Gandoca-Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge, and Palo Verde are a few of the national parks that are close by and available for tourists to visit.

Because of its proximity to the United States, the Pacific coast makes it possible to travel quickly and easily between the two nations. Airports at San José and San Isidro are both options for passengers arriving by air. It will take you around three hours by automobile to get to the coast of the Pacific Ocean after you leave there.

The Caribbean coast of Costa Rica is home to some of the most gorgeous beaches and sceneries in the country. Playa Flamingo, Playa Panamericana, and Playa Cocles are just a few of the world-renowned surf beaches that can be found in this region of the country.

The coastline of the Caribbean Sea runs parallel to the country's shared border to the east with Honduras and Nicaragua. Here you'll discover Limon, Guanacaste, Nicoya Peninsula, Nosara, Playa Nosara, Playa Matapalo, Tambor, Tortuguero National Park, and Barra Honda National Park.

The coastline of the Caribbean offers its own unique set of attractions, such as gorgeous beaches with white sand, breathtaking sunsets, and an abundance of marine life. The beaches of Playa Grande, Playa Conchal, Playa Panamá, Playa Langosta, Playa Brasilito, Playa Blanca, and Playa Potrero are among the most popular tourist destinations in the region.
