Best Beaches in the World for Vacation

best beaches in the world for vacation

Is it possible to compile a list of the best beaches in the world for vacation? Of course not, because preferences vary from traveler to traveler and are based on amenities, accessibility, swimming and water sports options, safety, a sense of peace, relaxation, and scenery, among other factors.  As a result of extensive travels and time spent walking on a variety of beaches around the world, I am pleased to present you with my list of the topmost spectacular beaches on the planet. I hope you enjoy it. It should come as no surprise that the majority of these beaches are located in some of the world's most desirable beach destinations, ranging from coral to sandy to long and enclosed.

There is just something about the beach when it comes to a lot of people like me.  Just being there can relax you and give you a feeling of renewal. Every location has its own appeal.  I can see why some people like traveling to the city, the mountains, or the desert.  All of these places have a certain appeal to me.  But, the one that stands head and shoulders above all else, is the beach.

What are the best beaches in the world?  Without further ado, here are the best beaches in the world.

NAVAGIO BEACH, ZAKYNTHOS, GREECE

NAVAGIO BEACH, ZAKYNTHOS, GREECE
NAVAGIO BEACH, ZAKYNTHOS, GREECE

On the Greek island of Zakynthos, there is a small sandy cove known as Navagio beach, which is both isolated and breathtakingly beautiful. As a result, it is commonly referred to as Shipwreck Beach, as it is the site of the wreck of a ship named Panagiotis, which is thought to have been a smugglers ship. Each year, thousands of tourists flock to the area to enjoy the sheer limestone cliffs, white sand beaches, and clear blue water that define the region. Despite the fact that the strip of beach can only be reached by boat, it is visible from above if you stand on the high side of the surrounding cliffs.

TULUM, RIVIERA MAYA, MEXICO

TULUM, RIVIERA MAYA, MEXICO
TULUM, RIVIERA MAYA, MEXICO

What distinguishes Tulum is its proximity to some of the most stunning Mayan ruins in all of Mexico: it is here that one of the world's best cultural destinations meets one of the world's best beaches, creating a unique combination. Tulum's ruin is an ancient walled city perched on a rocky clifftop overlooking a spectacular beach, and it is open to the public. With throngs of tourists flocking to the area on a daily basis, the area isn't exactly private, but the expansive stretch of white sand and mesmerizing turquoise Caribbean waters more than compensate for this.  Special note:  Tulum has one of the most unique travel experiences with a king bed that will roll out onto the balcony so you can sleep under the stars.

GRACE BAY, TURKS & CAICOS

The Turks and Caicos Islands are made up of 40 islands and cays, with Providenciales serving as the main tourist destination. Grace Bay, located on the island's northern shore, is a 19-kilometer (12-mile) stretch of sugary sand and clear water, surrounded by a coral reef system that offers excellent snorkeling and diving opportunities. You may be better off these days on one of the more private hotel beaches like Amanyara or Parrot Cay, as an increasing number of resorts and condo hotels have sprung up along the shore in recent years. WHITEHAVEN BEACH, QUEENSLAND, AUSTRALIA

In the Whitsunday Islands National Park, Whitehaven Beach is protected from the elements and is situated in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef. This famous beach in Australia stretches for 4,4 miles (7 km) and is washed by swirls of turquoise, blue, and green water, making it the world's most photographed beach. The sand is made up of 98 percent pure white silica, which gives it a brilliant, almost luminescent color when exposed to light. A helicopter or seaplane can transport you to Whitehaven Beach; alternatively, one of the many yacht excursions available in the area can take you sailing to the beach.

LONG BEACH, VANCOUVER ISLAND, CANADA

It are not only tropical beaches whose breathtaking beauty can make one speechless. The best example is Long Beach, the longest sandy beach on Canada’s Vancouver Island, which offers eye-popping scenic views and an unmatched maritime wilderness. Located within the boundaries of the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve between Tofino and Ucluelet, its 10 miles (16 km) of pristine sand are backed by lush rainforests and washed by a cool pounding surf. Twenty-thousand grey whales migrate up this coast each spring and summer.

BAIA DO SANCHO, FERNANDO DE NORONHO, BRAZIL

BAIA DO SANCHO, FERNANDO DE NORONHO, BRAZIL

In the remote island of Fernando de Noronha, an active volcanic archipelago of 21 islands in the Atlantic Ocean, approximately 220 miles (350 kilometers) off the coast of northeastern Brazil, is the town of Baio Do Sancho. The sparkling emerald water and soft white sands of the beach are surrounded by 250 ft (75 m) cliffs covered in lush vegetation. To get to the beach, you must either take a boat or walk down a dirt trail through a crack in a rock wall, which consists of a few dozen uneven, slippery-sandy steps. Snorkeling and ray spotting are excellent activities on the beach.

Maya Bay is a sheltered bay on Thailand's Koh Phi Phi island that is breathtakingly beautiful. When you look at the beach, you can easily see why director Danny Boyle chose this location for the film The Beach, which stars Leonardo DiCaprio and features a ring of white sand surrounded by mangroves and towering limestone walls blanketed in dense foliage. At around 200 meters (650 feet) long, the main beach in the bay is covered with silky soft white sand and surrounded by underwater colorful coral and exotic fish in exceptionally clear water.

CAMPS BAY, CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA

CAMPS BAY, CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA
CAMPS BAY, CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA

Cape Town is at the top of my list of the world's most beautiful cities, not least because of the spectacular beaches that are right outside its door. Camps Bay is not only Cape Town's most popular beach, but it is also the only urban beach to make it into my top ten list of the world's best beaches for swimming. Although Camps Bay's water is a little chilly as a result of the currents in the Atlantic Ocean, the stunning scenery and world-famous sunsets make up for it. The beach boasts blinding white sand set against the majestic backdrop of the Twelve Apostles Mountain Range and Table Mountain, and the water temperature varies depending on the season.

POLIHALE BEACH, HAWAII, USA

POLIHALE BEACH, HAWAII, USA
POLIHALE BEACH, HAWAII, USA

Polihale is without a doubt the most breathtakingly beautiful beach in the entire Hawaiian archipelago. Located on the western end of Kauai, one of the world's most scenic islands, this seemingly deserted 11-kilometer (7-mile) stretch is several miles from the nearest town and exudes an air of enchantment and mystique that is still present on the Hawaiian islands today. The beach can only be reached by way of a poorly marked dirt sugarcane road, making a four-wheel-drive vehicle the most practical choice for getting there (check with your rental car company for restrictions before heading out).

ANSE SOURCE D’ARGENT, SEYCHELLES

ANSE SOURCE D’ARGENT, SEYCHELLES
ANSE SOURCE D’ARGENT, SEYCHELLES

It is one of the most photographed beaches on the planet. Anse Source d'Argent is located on La Digue, one of the 115 islands that make up this idyllic archipelago in the Indian Ocean, and is one of the world's most photographed beaches in general. The beach is set against a backdrop of massive granite boulders that have been weathered by time and the elements. Because of the protection provided by an offshore reef from ocean waves, turquoise water is an excellent swimming destination. Make sure to keep an eye out for endangered species such as birds and giant tortoises!
